How to Make a Homemade Photo Advent Calendar

You definitely don’t need an Advent calendar to know that Christmas is coming. But, the excitement of opening a mini numbered door and waking up to a little gift each morning is something we can all appreciate.

The first printed Advent Calendar was created in the 1900s, and since then we’ve rejoiced in the novelty of checking off each day until the big one finally arrives.

As much as we LOVE waking up to a miniature piece of chocolate each morning, we decided to create our very own homemade Photo Advent Calendar this year for an extra-personal touch. These dull winter mornings could definitely be made better by starting them with a smile at some of your most memorable moments.

Here’s what you’ll need:
  • Some ribbon or string
  • Small pegs
  • 25 Envelopes
  • Gift tags
  • Decorative accessories like glitter & stickers (optional)
  • Fairy Lights (optional)
  • 25 Photo Prints

Step 1 – Gather & Number Envelopes

The first step is to get together 25 envelopes and label them with numbers. We used these decorative gift tags, but you can write directly onto the envelope if you’d prefer. You can also get super creative at this stage and decorate the envelopes with individual illustrations, doodles, or glitter!

Step 2 – Pick Your Pics

Decide which Photo Prints you’d like to put into each numbered envelope. There may be a particular Print you’d like to open on a certain day. Or, you could jumble them up so that each day leading up to Christmas is a pleasant surprise!

At this stage, you can choose if you’d like to add anything extra into the envelope like chocolate or a heartfelt quote to brighten up your cold, December mornings! Then, seal each envelope.

Step 3 – Sort Your String or Ribbon

Next, gather your string or ribbon and decide on the length in which you’d like it displayed. Once you’ve cut it to size, attach 25 pegs evenly.

Step 4 – Attach Sealed Envelopes

Attach each sealed envelope to an individual peg and choose where you want to display your Homemade Photo Advent Calendar. We think it will look great paired next to some Fairy Lights for an extra bit of sparkle!

If traditional Advent Calendars are more your thing, our digital Advent Calendar will be going live on Saturday 1st December. You’ll be able to open a door every day until Christmas Eve to reveal a new, exclusive deal on everything from Photo Gifts to Canvas Prints.

That’s right. 24 days. 24 exclusive deals. Don’t miss it!
