It’s a New Year…you have probably all noticed. *Stating the obvious*
Everyone has good intentions for 2015 I am sure; some of them may be focused on the development of your photography.
However, improving your pictures isn’t easy if you are trying to do it in isolation, but thanks to social media that isn’t something we have to worry about quite as much as we used to. Social media provides us with plenty of opportunities to get connected to fellow photography fans.
There are a number of blog based challenges, like our reflections theme from the blog last week. But now, thanks to the march of technology, the Instagram App (available on iTunes or Google Play) means we have no excuse not to be taking at least one thoughtful shot a day.
Instagram Photo Challenges
What challenges should we be taking part in though?
#CapturingColour – Capture by Lucy
Every Monday, Capture by Lucy‘s blog publishes a new colour for you to focus on during the week on Instagram, and presents the best of the previous week. Anything goes, as long as the photos include that colour as a theme. Even if you don’t take part, it is worth searching the hashtag for the wonderfully vivid colours it fills your Instagram feed with.
#FMSphotoaday – Fat Mum Slim
This photo a day challenge has been going strong since January 2012, and people from all over the world take part. Chantelle, from Fat Mum Slim is actually from Australia; but the challenge has spread far and wide. Each month a new daily list of themes is released, and the rest is up to us!
#CapturingLifeLaughterLove – Collaborative with 20 bloggers worldwide
This is a challenge that I am involved with through my KiddyCharts blog. The aim is to capture those special moments with a new theme everyday. If you sign up to the challenge, you also get a free eBook on improving your Instagram pictures.
#Catchthemoment365 – Behind the Camera and Dreaming, Stavish Stills Photography and My Life, Our Journey
Three bloggers are encouraging you to catch those moments in 2015, having done so throughout 2014 as well. Behind the Camera and Dreaming (Details for joining in are here), Stavish Stills Photography and My Life, Our Journey. This challenge is also run as a blogging linky, so you can post a review of your week’s photographs if you want to. Linkies allow you to visit a host’s blog, add a link to the blog post that covers the theme of the linky, in this case the photo challenge, and then visit other bloggers who have also taken part.
#Project52 – Angie’s Angle, Marvellous Mommy and Whimsy and Hope
If once a day is a bit too much to commit to, why not check out the project 52 instead? This is also run as a blog link up, as well as you being able to hashtag photos on Instagram, Twitter and beyond. There is a new theme weekly, but you only need to post one photo, composed with improving your photography in mind of course.
Finally we have a more general photo challenge, from Mashable (#Mashpics), an excellent site covering everything from social media to tech and everything else in between. Their weekly photography challenge gives you a theme to work with, and a place to share your spoils. Why not check it out alongside our very own Truprint monthly challenges?
We will be back in a few weeks with a new photo challenge, and a guest post from a blogger who has taken part in a photo challenge to improve her photography too!
Happy snapping 😀
